Overview

Here’s a 1-day course outline for young kids that is engaging, hands-on, and introduces them to the basics of drones:


Duration: 1 Day (6 hours)

Age: Between 8 - 16 years

Objective: To introduce kids to drones, their uses, and basic flying skills while ensuring safety and fun.

What you'll learn

Session 1: Welcome and Introduction (45 minutes)

  • Icebreaker Activity:
    • Kids share what they know about drones and where they’ve seen them.
  • What are Drones?
    • A brief introduction using videos and images to explain:
      • What drones are.
      • How they are used (photography, delivery, rescue, etc.).
  • Types of Drones:
    • Show examples of mini drones, quadcopters, and toy drones.

Session 2: Drone Safety Basics (45 minutes)

  • Importance of Drone Safety:
    • Rules for safe flying:

Always fly in open spaces.

Avoid flying near people, animals, or buildings.

  • Basic legal guidelines (e.g., height limits).
  • Practical Safety Demo:
    • Pre-flight checks: Inspecting propellers, batteries, and remote controls.

Session 3: Understanding Drone Controls (1 hour)

  • Hands-on Introduction to Controls:
    • Throttle, yaw, pitch, and roll explained in simple terms.
    • Demonstration with a small drone by the instructor.
  • Interactive Activity:
    • Kids practice using remote controls on a drone simulator or a toy drone indoors.

Lunch Break (30 minutes)


Session 4: Flying Practice (2 hours)

  • Practice on Simulator:
    • Practice take-off, hovering, moving in different directions, and landing.
  • Real Drone Flying (Supervised):
    • Kids take turns flying drones in a safe, open space.
    • Fly through hoops or around cones.
    • Land the drone on a marked spot.

Session 5: Wrapping Up (45 minutes)

  • Quiz:
    • Fun questions to recap what they learned during the day.
  • Certificate Ceremony:
    • Award “Junior Drone Pilot” certificates to each participant.
  • Feedback & Sharing:
    • Kids share their favorite part of the day.
    • Group photo with the drones!
